Outstanding OFSTED for Chulmleigh Community College’s Learndirect Centre

The Business & Enterprise Centre based at Chulmleigh Community College is delighted with the recent results from their OFSTED inspection that took place this summer. They were awarded an exemplary Grade 1, which means that the “leadership and management, achievement and standards and the quality of provision are judged to be outstanding”.

Chulmleigh Business & Enterprise Centre is the first Learndirect Centre in the South West, and only the second in the country, out of 300 centres, to achieve this prestigious grade.

The OFSTED report states “Chulmleigh’s success is shown by a number of awards, and their well deserved reputation in the region. Learners travel from far and wide because they know the centre will meet their individual needs and increase their chances of success.”

Learning Champion Maggie Wykes from Winkleigh, who has been studying with the Chulmleigh Learndirect Centre for over four years, was interviewed during the inspection. She said “This Centre has really changed my life. The friendly staff have supported me in learning new skills, which I have really enjoyed. The flexibility of the Learndirect courses has allowed me to continue my learning around ongoing health issues. You’re never too old – Learndirect has put a spring back in my step!”

College Principal, Michael Johnson was delighted with the grade. “This is a splendid reflection of the hard working dedicated staff that work in the Centre. Their enthusiasm and passion for their work, learning and helping others is truly remarkable. The Centre has enabled many members of our community not only to improve their job prospects, but also to gain further qualifications, skills and knowledge which has taken some on to university and helped others to offer better support to their child’s learning”.
